Gustavo Balderas, Superintendent and AASA President-Elect, Beaverton School District (OR)
Balderas is a nationally recognized educator known for his equity-driven leadership, who has a proven track record of ensuring that all students achieve academic success as well as social-emotional growth. His numerous awards include the 2021 Champion for Equity Award from the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents, 2020 Oregon Superintendent of the Year Award from the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators, and 2020 National Superintendent of the Year Award from AASA.
Sarena Shivers, Ed.D., Former Superintendent & Current Deputy Executive Director of Professional Learning and Member Services, MASA
Dr. Sarena Shivers provides support to the MASA (Michigan Association of Superintendents & Administrators) Executive Director and leadership for MASA’s professional development programming. She brings more than two decades of experience to the role, having served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent, most recently at the helm of Redford Union Schools.
Michael Cardona, Superintendent, San Marcos CISD (TX)
Hired at San Marcos in 2016, Cardona has also served as the Chief School Officer with Houston ISD since 2012, where he oversaw 36 schools (grades 6-8 and 9-12) and 15 charter schools (PK-12) with over 42,000 students and represented the superintendent as the District official in the community.
Joseph Hochreiter, Superintendent, City School District of Albany (NY)
Hochreiter has 14 years’ experience as a Superintendent in two New York districts, leading the Elmira City School District from 2009-13 and the Hendrick Hudson Central School District from 2013-23.
Leila Nuland, Senior Vice President, Education Elements
Over the course of her career, Nuland has leveraged her experience as a high school teacher to build out high-impact products and services that support K-12 educators and leaders. She is passionate about inclusive leadership and has a track record for developing strategy for and managing teams in a high-growth environment.
