This one day institute is for district and school leaders who want to learn practical, systems-wide approaches to improve students’ social and emotional wellbeing. We will provide a wealth of resources to share back with your districts relating to building student self-direction, agency, collaboration, and engagement. We are so excited to partner with the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton BOCES to bring this learning and collaborative opportunity to New York!

In this session, district leaders will experience student-directed learning first-hand through a simulation activity and learn ways they can design and implement student-directed structures back at their districts.

Participants will:

  • Learn the key approaches to student-directed learning (from blended learning to personalized learning to competency-based education) and how they intersect
  • Gain exposure to the most common instructional models and best practices in student-directed learning
  • Learn practical ways to we increase student collaboration, voice and choice, ownership and engagement
  • Understand how student-directed learning promotes social and emotional growth in students
