One Book That Can Transform Your School or District

We are thrilled to be able to share a new book from Anthony Kim & Alexis Gonzales-Black: The NEW School Rules. The book, published by Corwin, focuses on the 6 ways in which organizations can be more agile, thriving, and responsive. “After years of working with districts, we noticed patterns in how our ways of working often hold us back, rather than move us forward,” noted Anthony. The book includes case studies, lessons, and experiments you can test out today. Visit The NEW School Rules website for additional information, resources, templates, and guides on how to get started now.

DESIGN SPOTLIGHT

Rochester School Department, and Personalized Learning

The Rochester School Department in New Hampshire has been working to personalize learning for its students. But like many districts, it needed to build knowledge, build capacity, train teachers and leaders, and get everyone on the same page. Rochester hired Education Elements to support its transition to personalized learning and used Touchpoint to make it all easier.

Over the past year RSD has used Touchpoint to:

  • Schedule key project dates and use the roadmap view to provide a clear vision of where they're going to school leaders, teachers, and the school board
  • House all project resources for district and school teams
  • Access key resources during onsite visits and calls
  • Track action items before, during, and after key touchpoints

According to Mike Hopkins, the Superintendent of Rochester School Department in New Hampshire, “Touchpoint allows sharing of the process with all staff members involved in the process. It clarifies the planning, design and launching process. It allows the seamless integration of documents in meetings. I am not normally a sequential planner, but it makes me look like a concrete sequential planner to the Board. I used documents from Touchpoint as part of my evaluation. The Board was impressed with the process and results."

Haven’t heard of Touchpoint? It’s a cloud-based initiative management tool designed to keep teams on the same page, through visualizing the project roadmap, capturing concrete actions and centralizing all resources. To learn more about how your team can work with Education Elements and use Touchpoint to support initiatives send a note to info@edelements.com.

By Lori Barr
It was about a year ago that I took the plunge and implemented personalized learning in my classroom. That decision turned out to be one of the best I’ve made in my sixteen years as an educator. Under the guidance of and support from Kelly Freiheit at Education Elements, my traditional third grade classroom has evolved into a personalized learning classroom that has changed the way my students learn.

It is an exciting trend that educational agencies across the United States are launching regional initiatives to create deep, enduring models of personalized learning in an effort to adopt a new vision of public education that addresses our nation’s diversifying student body. One such agency is the Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD) near Seattle, Washington. PSESD is one of nine regional educational agencies serving school districts and state-approved charter and private schools in Washington.
